Lunch with Kallie and Abbie....

A couple of weeks ago, I spent my entire lunch hour on the phone with Kallie and Abbie. I wrote it down and saved it in my drafts so I could remember it. So here is the story.

Kallie called me and was so sad as she was telling on Abbie for something I couldn't understand what had her so sad, but she was quite upset when she was telling me about it. So I said, "Abbie, are you being mean to Kallie?" and Abbie said, "No, grandma, She's just mad because I won't let her have this" (I never did find out what "this" was) Kallie said, "Yes you ARE being mean to Kallie Grace, Abbie!"

So I got them over that and distracted Kallie with questions about what she was doing today and then I listened to them play and Kallie "showed" me lots of cool things. She is so cute. We get on the webcam on occasion and can "see" what they are doing, and Kallie thinks I can "see" what she shows me on the phone as well.

Abbie sang me three songs (I am a Child of God, I have a Family Here on Earth, and I am a Builder. Those are the titles Abbie gave me of the songs) and asked me which one I liked best. She said she is working on her singing for Primary.

Then she said, "Oh, I have to feed my baby now" So she went to the play kitchen and got lunch for her and Kallie and then they were whispering and then she said, "Say, Amen, Grandma. You're supposed to say amen when we bless the food" Oh sorry....I didn't realize you were praying! I asked her what they were eating and she said they were having tater tot casserole.

Then Abbie said, "My husband is amazing!" I said, "wow, why is he so amazing?" She said, "Because he can make cheesy broccoli and he can make tater tot casserole SIXTEEN different ways" I was quite impressed....

I asked her what else her husband could do and she said, "he takes care of the yard and works on the cars". I asked her what her husband's name is and she said, "ummm...I don't remember." I said, "you DON'T remember your amazing husband's name?" and she explained, "no, well....he hasn't told me for a long time" Ohhh..... I guess he has to introduce himself once in a while so she remembers his name....haha

Then I asked her where her husband works and she told me he works at Treasure Valley Closets (just like her daddy! I wonder if he knows him?) I said, "that's a good place to work. What does he do there?" She told me he "goes to scouts, and builds things for my bedroom, and goes rafting" Nice work if you can get it. Sounds like a great job.... I think Karlo should remind her what her husband's name is though. I mean surely he knows the guy since they work at the same place and all!

Then Abbie said she had to go to choir so I assumed her husband was home from work by then and she said, "Dear, I have to go to my concert, so you bring the baby and come later to hear me sing." "and baby, you be good for your father and I will see you after my concert"

I find it interesting that when they are playing 'pretend' the names are changed to "mother, father, grandmother, etc." rather than mommy, daddy, grandma.... you can also tell a lot about what the kids' impression is of their parents and what they 'observe and overhear'. The similarities are great. Tama sings all the time, she goes to choir and performs in concerts while Karlo is a fantastic cook, works hard on the house, yard and cars as well as makes furniture for their house. Plus he is in scouts and loves to go rafting!

Sometimes, we have discovered, when Abbie feels she is missing out on some attention or something, her 'pretend' mother shows up or her pretend father or even her pretend brother are there. You wouldn't believe the stuff her 'brother' lets her do! He lets her stay up as late as she wants, jump on the furniture, eat cookies anytime, all kinds of fun things! So far there has only been a replacement Grandmother one time and I remedied that real quick!

Kallie finally got the phone back and told me she was doing lots and lots of homework. I asked her why she had so much homework to do and she said, "I'm thwee, gwamma" Oh, you should have lots of homework when you are three I guess.

After hearing more stories from Kallie and asking her if I could talk to mommy (and being told no several times) I finally convinced her to take the phone to her mommy so I could talk to her before I had to go back to work. I hate having to hang up on the girls! I filled Tama in on my lunch time adventures with the girls. (she just thought they were 'pretending' to talk to grandma! She didn't realize that Kallie actually called me and I had been on the phone for the better part of an hour with them.

Such silly girls! I am so thankful for the technology we have today that I am able to "share" my lunch hour with my grandkids!
